Lenten Reflection 2016 Colossians 3:1-17

You are invited to use the following for a weekly/daily reflection during the season of Lent!

Colossians 3:1-17  Lenten Reflection 2016

**FEBRUARY 10-16

3:1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. (What do you think are the things that are above?  How might you better seek and set your mind on them?) Pray: Lord, help me to set my mind on the things above.  Amen.

**FEBRUARY 17-23

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.  (What does it mean for your life to be hidden in Christ?  How would you describe to someone, “Christ is your life”?) Pray: Lord, may my life be hidden with Christ in God that I might appear with him in glory! Amen.

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them.  (What things might you need to “put to death” in order to live more fully in Christ?) Pray: Lord, put to death anything in me that is earthly.  Amen.

**MARCH 2-8

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.  (How might we help the process of being “renewed in knowledge”?) Pray: Lord, may I nurture the new self in your word, in prayer, and in praise of You! Amen.

**MARCH 9-15

12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. (What areas of your character need building up in accordance to these verses?  How can we put on love?)  Pray: Lord, help me to love you and others more deeply to bind everything in perfect harmony.  Amen.

**MARCH 16-22

15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.  (How do you think we “let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts”?  Do you think the word of Christ helps us know the peace of Christ?  How so?)  Pray: Lord, may your peace and your love abide in me that I might sing your praise and give you thanks.  Amen.

**MARCH 23-26

17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.  (How is everything we say or do affected by the name of Jesus?)  Pray: Lord, help me to focus my words and deeds in the name of Jesus Christ.  I thank you, in His name.  Amen.
